Some anime you start out of curiosity, and before you know it, you’re bargaining with sleep to squeeze in “just one more episode.” Maybe it’s an epic battle, a mystery, or a character you’re rooting for like you’re right there in the story.

Myke here, and today it’s time for my top 10 best anime of all time. There’s adventure, strategy, fantasy, and even volleyball—because a well-built match can keep you on the edge of your seat, too.

I’ll break down what earns each anime a spot on my list, without giving away the major spoilers. Let’s get into it!

10. Haikyu!! — A Single Point Can Feel Like an Epic Battle

Haikyu!! kicks off the ranking by proving you don’t need swords or overpowered abilities to make a showdown exciting. Its biggest strength is making every achievement matter to the team.

Following Hinata, Kageyama, and Karasuno makes it easy to understand the weight of a training session, a mistake, or a play that finally clicks. Their opponents have goals and personalities of their own, which makes the matches even more compelling.

For me, the anime shines when it turns teamwork into pure emotion. A block or a last-second save can feel as intense as a boss fight. Even if volleyball isn’t your thing, give it a shot. Watching that team grow is absolutely worth it—you won’t regret it.

9. Hell’s Paradise — A Paradise You Don’t Want to Get Lost In

What earns Hell’s Paradise its spot is the contrast between beauty and danger. The island looks fascinating, but you quickly get the feeling that something is very wrong with the place.

Gabimaru and Sagiri lead an adventure where surviving takes more than fighting skills. The mysteries and threats make every discovery raise another question: what is this place, and how far will someone go to escape it?

I like how that atmosphere keeps the tension alive. You want to explore to understand the world, but exploring might reveal something even more terrifying. It’s a great combination for anyone who enjoys action, dark fantasy, and an adventure where the setting itself feels like an enemy.

8. Black Clover — Nobody Gets Far Alone

Black Clover earns its place through the strength of its team battles. Asta has determination to spare, but one of the story’s best moves is giving other characters’ abilities room to make a difference.

The Black Bulls bring together personalities and powers that look like a total mess at first. Once those pieces start working together, the fights reach another level.

For me, a win is much more interesting when it depends on combining abilities, finding an opening, and trusting your crew. It feels like that RPG party where everyone has a role. When everything clicks, the result is epic—and Black Clover knows how to make those moments count.

7. Demon Slayer — Battles That Become a Spectacle

Demon Slayer earns its spot through the visual presentation of its fights. Movement, effects, framing, and music work together to give every clash impact.

The Breathing Styles have a visual identity that makes the action instantly recognizable and a joy to watch. When a battle hits its peak, the production knows how to turn that moment into a spectacle.

For me, what makes it work is having something at stake beyond a gorgeous action sequence. Tanjiro’s journey and his bond with Nezuko give you a reason to root for them. You want to see those incredible attacks, but you also want those characters to make it through. That combination makes the action hit harder.

6. Naruto — Characters You Can’t Help Caring About

Naruto makes my ranking because of its ability to get you invested in its characters. The desire for recognition, the rivalries, and the bonds between teammates give the journey weight.

The ninja world delivers legendary techniques and showdowns, but what hooks me is understanding why someone is fighting. When the anime develops those motivations, a battle carries far more than a clash of powers.

I’m counting the journey across Naruto and Naruto Shippuden here. For me, watching these characters grow is a huge part of the appeal. You root for their progress, feel the pain of their choices, and want to know just how much those bonds can withstand.

5. Mushoku Tensei — A Fantasy World That Begs to Be Explored

Mushoku Tensei’s biggest strength is its worldbuilding. The adventure introduces places, cultures, magic, and different ways of life that make the universe feel bigger than the protagonist’s path through it.

Journeys and encounters give that world its own personality. There’s real enjoyment in understanding how things work and discovering what lies beyond the next region.

That’s what puts the anime so high on my list. The story follows Rudeus, a deeply flawed protagonist with behavior that’s hard to defend, as he navigates his second life. My highlight is the fantasy itself: a setting that makes you want to explore, learn magic, and discover new possibilities.

4. Death Note — A Battle Where Reasoning Is the Weapon

Death Note takes fourth place for the battle of wits between Light and L. Their confrontation builds tension through information, suspicion, and carefully calculated decisions.

A conversation can hide a trap. A seemingly minor action can reveal something important. You watch, trying to work out who’s one step ahead and what the next decision will cost.

For me, that’s its biggest achievement: making a mental duel feel as intense as a physical battle. You don’t need an explosion to make an episode tense; realizing someone might have made a mistake is enough. It’s the kind of anime that turns “just one more” into a terrible deal with the clock.

3. Solo Leveling — Leveling Up Has Never Felt So Exciting

Solo Leveling makes my top three for the satisfaction of watching Sung Jinwoo grow stronger. If you’re into games, the language of levels, quests, and dungeons makes that progression feel especially familiar.

Every step forward makes you curious about the next challenge and what he’ll be capable of. It feels like unlocking a new ability and immediately wanting to test what it can do.

For me, the anime nails turning that growth into a spectacle. The action gives his achievements impact and makes the change in his presence unmistakable. You watch him progress thinking, “All right, now I want to see the next boss.”

2. Hunter x Hunter — Power Gets Better With Strategy

Hunter x Hunter takes second place for its Nen system and the strategic possibilities it creates.

Abilities have rules, conditions, and limitations that can completely change a fight. Understanding your opponent and using your own power well matter just as much as having the strength to face them.

That’s the kind of design that hooks me. An ability becomes much more interesting when you start thinking about its possibilities, its risks, and how someone might counter it.

Add Gon and Killua’s journey and story arcs with very different identities. For me, Hunter x Hunter is legendary because it keeps surprising you, both in its battles and in the directions its story takes.

1. One Piece — A World Where Every Discovery Opens Up Another Adventure

One Piece takes the crown for the scale and richness of its world. Each island can introduce a culture, a conflict, and characters that add another layer to the journey.

What hooks me most is the feeling that there’s always something left to discover. A piece of information can change how you understand an event, and a small detail can spark a theory that stays with you for episodes.

At the heart of that adventure are Luffy and the Straw Hats. The crew’s dreams and bonds give you a reason to care about the journey, even when the world feels enormous.

For me, One Piece brings together freedom, humor, emotion, and epic moments in a way that earns it first place. Reaching the next island is already something to look forward to—and understanding more of that universe is part of the reward.

Now It’s Your Turn!

One Piece took the crown, but I want to know which legendary anime you’d put on this list—and which ones deserve a post of their own here on the blog.

Drop a comment with the number and the anime’s name:

  • 1 + anime name: to suggest an anime that didn’t make the top 10. Example: 1 — Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

  • 2 + anime name: to request a post about an anime you’d like to see covered. Example: 2 — Attack on Titan.

Feel free to leave suggestions in both categories. Let’s pick our next adventures together!
